One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain

I don’t sing, dance, or play any instruments, but listening to music is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy any genre of music; classic, rock, jazz, broadway, country, pop, indie, etc. However, I don’t really like the newer pop songs anymore. I’m not a ‘billboard top 40s’ person. They always sound too 'digitally enhanced (cough auto tune cough) for me, and I don’t see quality in the lyrics. Furthermore, nothing bugs me more than artists lip-syncing in live shows (because what's the point in live concerts if you don't sing live?). Of course, there are some exceptions. Lana Del Rey, Kodaline, and Adele are some of the few new artists that I am a fan of.

My favorite band of all time is The Beatles and Queen. They are the ones who introduced me to rock music. I love the way The Beatles have a song for every mood. They have very catchy songs like ‘Obladi Oblada’, ‘Twist and Shout’, or ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’, but their slower songs with awesome piano or guitar accompaniment are also epic. For example, ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Imagine’, ‘Across the Universe’, and the legendary ‘Let It Be’.

All my go-to-jams are songs by Queen. When I am pulling an all nighter, listening to 'Somebody to Love' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a ritual for keeping my eyes open. When I am stuck in the car (or MRT now that I'm in Singapore), I will listen to 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' or 'Radio Ga Ga'. They always keep me hyped up!

I realized that not a lot of people my age have the same taste of music as I do. My ex-classmates back in Indonesia love rock music as much as I do. However, I don't know anyone who likes them here. I know that everyone have different likes and dislikes, but sometimes I wish the people I know here can give rock music a chance. Most of the time, they just think that rock is merely all out screaming (which is wrong) and that they won’t like it.
